Nutrition / Treatment / December 15, 2015

We all agree that whole foods are better than refined foods. So why should it be any different when it comes to vitamins? When you eat an orange you are not only getting vitamin C, but bioflavonoids, fiber, calcium and folate all in one bite. But time and time again we try and isolate nutrients, like vitamin C, for its known health benefits. The only problem is when you isolate these nutrients, you are not benefitting from the entire food complex. Why Nutrients Are Better in Teams It’s called nutrient synergy. Nutrient synergy is when 2 or more nutrients work together to produce an effect that you can’t get from either nutrient alone.[1]  Sometimes one nutrient helps you absorb the other.  Other times, they work together to complete the same task. But the main takeaway is that they are all…

Nutrition / Treatment / September 30, 2014

I recently came across this great article by Dr. Nicholas Perricone, who is a MD, board certified dermatologist, nutritionist and also happened to be a co-investigator in one of our AlgaeCal human clinical studies. In this post, Dr. Perricone emphasizes the importance of stimulating new bone growth and explains that new bone growth brings anti-aging benefits and also can prevent bone loss. Nutrition / Strontium / Treatment / July 28, 2014

The body needs strontium because it contains relatively large amounts of it, 90% of which is found in the skeleton. Strontium is an element from the earth discovered in 1790 by a Scottish chemist Adair Crawford. He found it in a barium crystal ore near the Scottish town of Strontian. By the 1940’s research began to prove that strontium was important in the development of a healthy skeletal system. In fact, strontium is shown to stop bone loss. [1] Further evidence confirmed that healthy teeth contain more strontium than teeth with cavities, which gave indication to researchers that it would likely help bone too. [1] It’s worth noting that strontium is almost always present in the same foods in…
