DEXA Bone Density TestDEXA stands for Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry and is the most widely used test to measure bone mineral density. A dexa bone density test is more accurate than a regular x-rays or CAT scans and requires less radiation exposure. Dexa scans are now the best method of diagnosing and monitoring osteopenia and osteoporosis. The National Osteoporosis Foundation’s guidelines1 state that women over 65, younger post menopausal women who have any osteoporosis risk factors and aging men with any osteoporosis risk factors should be tested with DEXA scans. These tests provide a T-score which is a measure of bone mineral density that compares an individual's bone mineral density to an optimal 30 year old healthy adult’s bone density. A “T-Score” of -1.0 and above indicates normal bone density. A T-score of -1.0 to -2.5 indicates that a person is considered to have low bone mass - a condition called osteopenia. A score below -2.5 indicates osteoporosis. The AlgaeCal Bone Health Program is using dexa scans to monitor the bone density of patients participating in a significant clinical study being conducted by an independant team of investigators. AlgaeCal International encourages all current and future customers to measure their bone density with a DEXA scan, and will guarantee an increase in bone mineral density through the use of AlgaeCal and Strontium Boost in as little as 180 days.
