Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate) and AlgaeCal

Scientific research has shown that boron plays an essential role in bone health and much more.  AlgaeCal plant source calcium and mineral complex naturally contains boron but due to the magnitude of the recent studies on boron we decided to add additional boron to the AlgaeCal Plus formula.  The new formula of AlgaeCal Plus now includes 3 mg of Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate) in a daily serving.

Why Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate)?

Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate) is a complex of boron and fructose, a carbohydrate that occurs naturally in many fruits and vegetables, that is stable, non-toxic and bioavailable.

Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate)™ is a superior form of boron, a micronutrient or trace element that has been used historically as a nutritional supplement to promote healthy bones and joints, and more recently is thought to aid in Vitamin D metabolism, prostate health and in the regulation of steroid hormone levels.

Clinical Evidence Supporting Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate)

Clinical Studies conducted with Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate):

  • 79% of study volunteers suffering mild to moderate osteoarthritis experienced a reduction of joint pain, stiffness and inflexibility after taking 6 mg of boron per day for 8 weeks.

  • 59% of study volunteers suffering severe osteoarthritis experienced a reduction of joint pain, stiffness and inflexibility after taking 12 mg of boron per day for 8 weeks.

  • Bone ash increased by 5.8% in Vitamin D deficient animals supplemented with boron as compared to animals that did not receive the supplementation.

  • 25-OH-Vitamin D-3 serum level was raised on average 24% in subjects deficient in Vitamin D when given 6 mg of boron daily for 60 days. These subjects also exhibited increased serum levels of DHEA.

Bioavailability of Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate)

The relative systemic availability of boron from oral Fruitex B for 43-μg and 1000-μg amounts of boron were 110 and 160% respectively, when compared to the equivalent amounts of boron citrate.  These results show that Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate) is more bioavailable than boron citrate; that is, more actual boron is assimilated from Fruitex B.

Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate) – Safety Study

Boron Fruitex B showed the lower relative toxicity of 26.0 g/kg when compared to 5.14 g/kg of boric acid (Smyth et al) and other boron-based products.
